Daniele Tamagni Grant for Young and Emerging Photographers

Applications are now open for Daniele Tamagni Grant which is an international photography grant designed to sponsor young and emerging Photographers, funding a Scholarship.
The Grant, thanks to its partners and the panel members creates the opportunity of important global references in the Photo and Media industry, including important publishers and galleries. Elevating Creativity to a Profession, thanks to the scholarship the recipient of the Grant will be in the position to become a positive agent of change, shining new light over the evolution of the African identity.

This is an international Photography Grant with funding for a Scholarship for higher education and is designed to sponsor young and emerging photographers. The spirit of this initiative promotes the dissemination of the African culture, its creativity, the impact of its visual aesthetics on the continent and the diaspora and the in-depth exploration of the photography media.

The Recipient of the Scholarship will be entitled to :​

  • A return Economy class air-ticket from the place of residence to Johannesburg ZA.
  • Assistance in the visa application, when required.
  • Health and Repatriation Medical Insurance for the length of the Scholarship.
  • A monthly bursary of 9,000 ZAR for accommodation, meals, transport and other out of pocket expenses.
  • Curation of a new body of work to be developed during the Scholarship and to be presented for admission to the 2020 edition of the Festival Visa pour l’Image.
  • The Recipient of the Scholarship in September 2020 will travel to Perpignan, during the Visa pour l’Image.
  • There the Recipient will be introduced to international Photo Editors and, based on the quality of the portfolio earlier presented, have the opportunity to take part in dedicated programs and conferences.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must verify that:

  • Her/his age is between 18- 30 years (as at July 31st 2019);
  • To be the sole author of the photographs;
  • Has ownership of the proprietary rights in the photographs;
  • The submitted portfolio does not infringe third party copyrights or violates privacy rights;
  • Credits, captions and authorial terms exclusively belong the applicant and the Recipient agrees for communication, promotion and cultural initiatives; and
  • The Daniele Tamagni Estate will license, with terms of perpetuity and free of rights, the use of the pictures from the Submission and Graduation Portfolios (the digital files and its reproduction).

Muste Institute’s Social Justice Fund to Support Grassroots Activist Projects from around the World

The A.J. Muste Memorial Institute has announced a Social Justice Fund to support grassroots activist projects in the US and around the world, giving priority to those with small budgets and little access to more mainstream funding sources.

They are especially interested in funding efforts to:
end the violence of borders and the criminalization of immigrants
abolish the death penalty, shut down the prison industrial complex, redefine criminal justice
confront institutionalized repression against racial, ethnic, gender-based, and LGBTQ communities
support progressive workers movements and the eradication of poverty
dismantle the war machine, end state sponsored terrorism, expose the dangers of nuclear power

Priority Areas
The Social Justice Fund’s priority is to support:

  • direct grassroots activism and organizing
  • groups with diverse, representative and democratic leadership structures
  • groups that have or can obtain enough economic and in-kind support to carry out their regular work, but need additional support to carry out a project or build capacity

Eligibility Criteria
They seek proposals:

  • for projects with expense budgets under $50,000
  • from grassroots organizations with annual income of less than $500,000
  • from groups with limited access to more mainstream funding sources
  • from groups which have not received Social Justice Fund grants in at least two years
  • from groups with or without 501(c)3 status or a fiscal sponsor: the Social Justice Fund only requires a fiscal sponsor if the group receiving the grant does not have its own bank account. If applicants cannot receive a grant check made out to the name of applicants organization, applicants will need a fiscal sponsor. They cannot issue checks to individuals.

‘Annual Regional Young Scientists Conference’ to solve issues pertinent in Africa’s Development

The Kenya National Academy of Science has launched applications for the ‘Annual Regional Young Scientists’ Conference inviting young emerging scientists from sub-Saharan Africa to participate in the multilateral conference.
The Conference is envisaged to bring about experts senior scientists as key speakers, policy makers and young scientists to deliberate on topical issues affecting Africa.

The Young Scientists will also get to be trained on science diplomacy and sustainable development goals with the objectives of exposing to the real world of the complex interaction between the scientists, the policy makers and the implementer.

The Conference will seek to addres critical issues pertinent to Africa’s development challenges as identified in STISA 2024 through rigorous scientific debate and interrogation of policy dimensions in the four sub themes:

  • Food Security in Africa;
  • Climate Change and environmental protection;
  • Water resources exploitation and management; and
  • Energy and Sustainable Development in Africa.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicant must be from or working in sub- Saharan Africa;
  • Applicant must be under age of forty(40);
  • Applicant must be in possession of at least a Masters degree and enrolled for PhD;

  • They must submit an abstract (online form) that is relevant to the conference theme;
  • Applicant must be willing to present and share current research results at the conference.

Small Grants Programme for improving the lives of Patients with Palliative Care Needs across Africa

The True Colours Trust’s Small Grants Programme now open to support palliative care providers across Africa.
Grants are awarded to projects which directly improve the lives of patients with palliative care needs. Most grants are awarded to small, locally-based organisations which are improving the standard of palliative care in their communities. The scheme was established in 2009 and is administered by the African Palliative Care Association.

Funding Information

Funding is normally awarded for one-off projects and the size of grants ranges from £500 to £5,000. Projects should be implemented within one year of the receipt of a grant.

Funding Priorities

Funds disbursed through the Small Grants Programme should be used for activities which increase access to palliative care, improve the standard of palliative care services and directly improve the patient and family experience. Priority is given to the following, in no particular order:

  • Equipment for patients
  • Palliative care for children and young people
  • Palliative care medicines
  • Capital improvement costs
  • Increasing access to palliative care in rural areas
  • Developing small palliative care projects
  • Training courses for palliative care service providers held in Africa

They regret that they are not able to make grants towards:

  • Attending conferences
  • Education courses outside Africa
  • General work with children and young people which does not adhere to the WHO definition of palliative care
  • Per Diems or grants to individuals or governments
  • Salary costs

The work of any organisation currently in receipt of funding from the True Colours Trust or which has been in receipt of funding from True Colours within the last twelve months.

The College History in brief:
The origin of the College of Business Education (CBE) is closely linked to the history of the Nation itself. It was soon after Independence on 9th December 1961, that the newly independent state found itself in need of trained personnel to Commercial and Industrial activities. At that time there were very few nationals with commercial education and expertise.

The need to train nationals for the commercial sector therefore gave birth to a business training institute in the country. His Excellency, J.K. Nyerere, the first President of the United Republic of Tanzania officially opened the new College in Dar es Salaam – January 1965. The College was officially named the “College of Business Education” (CBE).
Over the years the College has grown in size and a second campus was opened in Dodoma in October, 1983. This campus was also officially opened by the then President Mwalimu J.K. Nyerere. The College opened another campus in Mwanza in December, 2007. Recently, in 2013 the College established another campus in Mbeya which currently offers Ordinary Diploma and Basic Certificate courses. The number of programmes has increased from one (1) in 1965 to ten (10) in 2018.

TUDARCo: Student Selected Join Tumaini University
Dar es Salaam College 2019/20 Round One
Tumaini University Dar es Salaam College (TUDARCo) is one of four Constituent Colleges of Tumaini University Makumira (TUMA). The other three are Kilimanjaro Christian Medical College, Stefano Moshi Memorial University College and the Josiah Kibira University College. In addition TUMA has one Teaching Centre, the Mbeya TUMA Teaching Centre. TUDARCo was awarded its Letter of Interim Authority on 1st July 2004 and its Certificate of Provisional Registration on July 14th 2005.

Certificate of Full Registration was granted in 2007. TUDARCo was awarded its Charter on 20th August, 2013 by HE The President of the United Republic of Tanzania. TUDARCo is owned by the Lutheran church, however, recruitment of staff and admission of students is irrespective of their faith.
TUDARCo joined the Tumaini University family on 1st April, 2003 having existed since 1997 as Waldorf College Tanzania. It has since grown from 249 students during 2004/2005 academic year to over 2,300 students during 2013/2014 academic year.
These students were initially enrolled in three degree programmes, namely – the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Arts in Library and Information Service (BALIS) and the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B). The range of degree
Programmes has grown from three to seven and now includes the Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication (BMC), Bachelor of Arts in Information Management (BIM), Bachelor of Human Resources Management (BHRM) and Bachelor of Arts with Education (BAED).

In addition, the College offers two Diploma Programmes, namely Diploma in Business Administration and Management (DBAM), Diploma in Law (DL) and three Certificate Programmes which are Certificate in Law (CL), Certificate in Accounting and Business Administration (CABA) and Certificate in Records Management (CRM)
